I was recently given a bundle of fresh basil and mint as a thank-you for dining at a local restaurant in Kaleköy, Türkiye. Originally, Clive and I had no intention of grabbing food, but we were looking for a place to throw our trash away, and this kind lady waved us in. We ordered two Mezes and a çoban salata. It was delicious! We had to depart the restaurant in a hurry because the wind picked up, and so did the waves. We were approximately 10 minutes from our boat by dinghy, and in a new anchorage, so we wanted to make sure the anchor was holding.
Those who know me well know I drink a lot of water, and I’m always looking for ways to make it taste better. I took the basil and mint from the bundle and placed them at the bottom of the glass. Next, I added three large ice cubes, freshly squeezed lemon, and, of course, the water. Basil mint water is very refreshing and is an excellent alternative to sugary drinks. You can also try adding cucumber slices or berries for extra flavor. What combinations do you use to spice things up a bit? Next time I’m going to try orange rosemary water.
